Victorian Tarot Two of Hearts

Learning Tarot is one of the more exciting things you can do in the area of esoteric mysteries. There is something indefinably attractive about having access to the mysteries of symbolism, hidden meanings and the super conscious. Tarot is a combination of skill and intuition but a person who has a deep understanding of the Tarot can give as good a reading as a person with good intuition, and will be infinitely better than an intuitive with moderate abilities.

Every card has within it a kernel of reality, the things we do, the energy motivating our actions the things that hold us back and the things that drive us forward. The Tarot is the law of attraction at work, you are radiating energy and when you ask a question of the cards, you are attracting a like or similar energy. The interplay between quester and cards is dynamic, but no more so than the connection between the reader and the cards AND the quester.

It is time to move beyond reciting card meanings in books and get back to the true nature of Tarot, which is to allow the cards to awaken your minds symbolic understandings, or intuition. ‘The cards have no meaning or signifier beyond their picture.’~Arthur Waite in his Pictorial Key to the Tarot. He intended that the symbology should be understood by the taroist. In a modern world complex imagery is more effective than obscure new dawn symbology. To note the men of the New Dawn fought so much over what meant what that the order destroyed itself in the later part of the 1800s.

You have your own glossary of emotional response that leads to intuitive recognition, We call this reading tarot!! In it’s purest form it is interpreting images using your own understanding of humanity and the response a card or group of cards evoke. It is much easier than you think. In a time when more people are reading for themselves than ever before pictures that you love will always be more informative than racing around for card meanings. However. There are three different types of people that buy tarot or oracle cards.

The intuitive readers who want to read for themselves and others whether for fun or professionally. The more complex and inviting an image, the better these people can read them. They can use card directives (character/strength) but the image itself speaks to them. They are the esoteric puzzlers who can see and make connections via images that others may not notice. A pictorial key can be helpful to understand all elements in an image, but isn’t vital.

Trying to learn definitions and interpret cards from messages just muddies the waters and slows them down. A pictorial key matters, a message is handy if reading for self, and any complexities relating to symbols including key words for cards which are directive not absolute.

Those who want to get a message. This led to the outbreak of oracle cards in the 90’s. For the first time it wasn’t readers only buying cards but those who had no interest in reading for others. For this type getting imagery you like is still important for the sheer enjoyment of using tarot is reliant on visual stimulus. Some cards are a joy to look at. For these folks the best cards to get are ones that offer a message, along with any other guidelines for each card. Sometimes the message needed isn’t the whole message. In the Victorian Tarot (in the deckible app) there is a pictorial guide and message. With the Dark Rose Divination (in the deckible app) There is a message and a quote. The Tarot of Asterisms have a message, archetype, key words and a myth or naming and a monthly influence.

Most creators offer a guidebook with their cards, this will be the most accurate way to understand their cards.
